One reason is that this is the first long-running notorious giant chicken fight. There are a few reasons why this early episode stands out in the Family Guy series. Having Stewie play Annie in the Misery parody was just icing on the cake, on top of a great parody episode.Ĭontinuing with the out of canon episodes, we have this episode depicting the Griffin family on the search for a Twinkie factory after the Y2K theory happens. Stephen King had even commented that he enjoyed the parodies and thought they were funny. Having jokes inserted here and there, but not to the point of throwing the stories off, or it just being too much. That being said, this Family Guy parody episode stands out as one of their best due to the staff executing the three parodies with the same respect and seriousness that the originals had, while at the same time keeping in with the Family Guy way of doing things. As a Stephen King fan myself, I might be a little bias towards my view on this episode. In this episode Family Guy depicts three of the most iconic Stephen King books Stand By Me, Misery, and The Shawshank Redemption. While Brian is a first-class d-bag and deserves everything he gets at the end, at least his d-bagery is entertaining and funny to watch. The funniest part of the episode is when Brian goes on Real Time With Bill Maher (a live version, not animated) and ends up having a complete breakdown, ending with Bill Maher kicking him out for peeing in his chair. As the bit of pretentious d-bag, Brian lets the little bit of fame he is experiencing go to his head and starts taking it out on Stewie who is his publicist. To his surprise it ends up being a best seller. After getting fed up that his serious writing is getting him nowhere, he decides to write a crappy self-help book. This episode is one the best examples for that. That being said, he can be a bit of a pretentious d-bag.

The change of Peter and Meg’s relationship going from one extreme to the other stands out among other Family Guy episodes, due to the genuine emotion that Peter shows, also that Meg shows when (spoiler alert) she finds out that she is pregnant and when she deals with it.

While it has received more than a few eyebrows raises for its edgy humour, or for being thought of as just plain stupid, no one can deny the cultural impact that the show has had.
